The two most hated words by most of my family, friends, and blog; FutureSense predicts. This phrase causes much mental anguish as I use my superpower to accurately predict the future from a mile away. They hem-and-haw, and even openly mock my beyond-reproach superpower, yet nobody can actually say that I’m wrong. Ready for more? No? Too bad, you’re getting it anyways (shout out to Ben Roethlisberger!). FutureSense predicts that California’s leadership will learn absolutely nothing from the burning of the Palisades. Light your torches by holding them out in the windy ember-ridden air of Los Angeles as I tell you why…
First, let’s start with the pledge that Karen Bass made that the regulations are going to be sliced through in order to allow the Palisades to rebuild. Needless to say, I’m skeptical if that’ll actually happen. However, putting my skepticism aside for the moment, I’ll judge the rhetoric at face value. Nevertheless, and more nervously for the Californian elites, is that I’ll also judge their actions.
FutureSense predicts that the Palisades will remain mostly raised to the ground until next January. Why? Because Soviet-style price caps have already been put in place. Thus, FutureSense predicts a delay in rebuilding as contractors will not exactly be lining up to take a bath on material costs that cannot be passed onto the consumer. Thus, the smoldering ashes and bare scorched foundations will remain until January of 2026, where the contractors can, you know, actually charge market rates for their services (dun dun dun!).
FutureSense predicts that only luxurious single family homes will be built on these lots, far outside the price tags of middle-class Californians. FutureSense predicts that these homes will be built instead of high-density apartment complexes that the Democrat leadership constantly pays lip service to building as they complain about a housing shortage. This is because liberal NIMBYism is quite real.
FutureSense can even predict the arguments used to prevent high-density housing from being built in the Palisades. Some will cite environmental concerns, which is really just wealthy liberal-speak for don’t block my scenic views. Others will cite property/previous landownership rights (which is genuinely hilarious given that this is the population that loves making land acknowledgment statements). These NIMBY’s will fight tooth-and-nail to prevent the ominous power of eminent domain from being used to erect the much-needed high density housing. Yet these NIMBYs were okay with eminent domain being used when they wanted a stadium.
California could also use this opportunity to closely examine it’s regulatory and economic policy that led to this disaster in the first place. However, FutureSense predicts that they will continue to not learn their lesson. Thus, FutureSense predicts that another serious wildfire will hit Southern California by the year 2032, and Team Blue will ask the same sets of questions.
Because of the price-caps, delayed starts to reconstruction, and the stifling of re-zoning efforts, FutureSense predicts that California’s population decrease will continue. The non-wealthy Californians who will be impacted most by the NIMBYism will leave the Left Coast in search of affordable housing. Wanting to stay within the region of desert and high temperatures, FutureSense predicts that Texas will be the landing spot. Besides Texas, Arizona and Nevada will receive generous flesh-donations from The Blue Behemoth as they look to dodge the tax man. Florida will not receive as many Californians this time around due to the lack of subsidized moves; it’s one thing to move cross-country when your new employer is paying for it, it’s another thing entirely when the insurance company has left you on the hook.
FutureSense predicts that this will have more ramifications at the ballot box. Karen Bass will lose her bid at re-election. Were I a more misogynistic man, I’d say shut up, bitch but she already did. The most severely-impacted Californians who remain inside the state will likely move inland and continue to form a Red coalition as California’s leadership continues to not learn their lesson.
What can I say? I’m on a hot streak…
