Why I Want More Female Gun Owners

A lot of right-wing pundits (eww…pundits) love to wax poetic about the feminization of society. They whine about women entering traditionally-male spaces, often discussing it as a negative. These discussions typically happen in the context of jobs and college enrollment. However, there is a growing trend of women entering a male-heavy space; gun ownership. And I for one welcome my sisters-in-literal-arms, albeit for completely selfish reasons.

But first, we need to backpedal. It’s not a secret that I grew up with a controller in my hand. My freshman year of college rolled around, and suddenly there was a small-but noticeable-cultural shift with my age bracket. It was late in 2009, and some fellow college students that I worked at the same part-time job with were asking me about video game consoles. There were both college girls; rail thin brunettes’ attractive in the girl-next-door kind of way. They were not heavily into the hobby, but were looking into picking up a console for some casual use. YoungerMe was all too happy to dispense his knowledge onto the studious females. Remember, it isn’t mansplaining if they explicitly asked!

I told my fellow nerdy homies about the interaction a few days later. We all chuckled when one of my best friends [name withheld] quipped Chicks getting into videogames now makes it okay. We laughed because we were all borderline gaming junkies at that point. With that said, his words carried a lot of wisdom in a way. Women having a sizable share of the gaming population-and not just a token status-makes it far more difficult for detractors to smear with broad paint strokes.

Another great example of this happening within my lifetime is with football. In recent decades, the NFL started to make more of a concerted effort in marketing to women. While there was an obvious capitalistic bent to this, there has been a social one as well. It’s harder to whitewash football fans as being the stereotypical cheesehead at the Packers game when nearly half the butts in the stadium seats are rocking yoga pants.

Aaand I’ve basically lost the impatient bastards by now; the doors slamming upon their exit in unison echoing loudly into the void. “What does this have to do with gun ownership, Daniel?” Frankly, the better question is what DOESN’T this have to do with gun ownership? Allow me to simplify it for everyone still here; women entering the space brings an inherent shield that protects all of us.

Much like my buddies and I from our 18-21 year old days when discussing video games, having more women become interested in guns shields the rest of us from scrutiny. After all, it becomes far less socially palatable to enact sweeping dystopic gun control policies if they’ll wind up hurting women as well. A savvy PR expert can easily judo-throw this into gun rights being women’s rights.

Think about it, the modern Democrat Party has rebranded itself in recent decades as The Party of Women. It’s undeniable; from Kamala and Hillary, to vocal opposition to the overturn of Roe v Wade, to the radical GenZ gender gap; Donkey’s have chicks on lockdown. Thus, the Democrats wouldn’t be able to enact sweeping gun-grabbing laws without triggering an active demographic of their base if women start arming themselves en-masse.

There is a grander social benefit to this. We can all agree that women are a much more vulnerable population than men (unless you’re the Olympic Boxing Committee). Thus, they’d generally need some sort of way to level the playing field in a confrontational situation. You want to have less creeps stalk your daughter in the middle of the night? Make it easier for her-legally, socially, and logistically- to conceal carry a Glock with a few 17-round mags.

Ladies, nothing says No Means No like mag dumping hollow points…
