America’s Biggest Immigration Mistake

Someone who was in my inner circle used to quip that everybody is racist. You know what, he’s right to a large degree; even his favorite comic book superheroes are racist AF. However, the wisdom of my former associate lies in the universality of the first word; everybody. Bigoted contributor for the New York Times Wajahat Ali is a prime example of this abhorrent mindset. However, in his Klansmen-like hatred, Ali brings up a valid point; America ought to be far more selective about who gets to start a new life here. And it’s not just “Brown people” (emphasis not mine) that we made a mistake letting in. Far from it, there’s another ethnic group that we deeply erred when we graciously welcomed them in through Ellis Island.

I fully expect members of this ethnic minority to get deeply triggered, even to the point of threatening violence. However, what I won’t expect is an intellectual challenge. What are they gonna say, “That’s not true”? I expect razor-sharp pitchforks while I drop absolute truth-bombs…

The Great American Melting Pot?

So, this group of immigrants wound up forming inward facing communities upon arrival rather than integrating., These pockets were generally concentrated at their original point of entry, however this culture then began to metastasize throughout the United States. These communities ultimately became unofficially known as the “Little” version of their homeland, not unlike “Little Havanna” or “Little Haiti” are today in Miami. Fuck me, I thought the whole point was assimilation, not colonization and segregation…

And much like Ali’s ancestors, this gaggle of migrants are definitely a breeder culture. While that alone is not an issue, the underlying assumption is that their offspring will culturally assimilate to the United States. Both this ethnic community and Ali’s cohorts openly refuse to do so. Ask this target group, and they’ll readily identify with their ancestral roots rather than picking up some apple pie and proudly stating I’m American. So much for The Great Cultural Melting Pot…

It starts small, though how you’ll do anything indicates how you’ll do everything. This culture is known for its people lacking an indoor voice or being subtle. The lack of respect for personal space relative to their out-group shows a poor cohesion with Americana as well. Make no mistakes manners matter, and it’s obvious that this ethnic group missed that steamship…

Piers Morgan has entered the chat, sitting far more spread-eagle on a bar-stool than a straight man ever should “Now hang on Dan, wait just a minute; you surely can’t condone not letting them in, can you? Look at all the restaurants these people have opened! Their cuisine is absolutely delightful!” While the rotund Brit is correct in the fact that this culture leans hard on opening businesses with low profit margins, I would lean heavily on my inner Tucker Carlson and ask is that worth it? Is the opening of businesses that are allowed to pay their employees below minimum wage worth tolerating an invasion of our culture? I would argue that America has drawn the short straw by letting these violent underachievers pass Lady Liberty all those decades ago.

And spare me the schpiel about “But Dan, this immigrant group achieved parity with non-Hispanic Whites in terms of educational attainment at their third generation!” Yeah…that’s kinda the problem; It took several generations of these low-skill, non-English speaking migrants to meet an acceptable social baseline. Meanwhile, this community disproportionately became a net negative to our society. If anything, that’s a case against letting them in, not for it.

Well…What Did They Become?

When famous members of the American descendants of this ethnicity come up in conversation, nobody refers to them as Nobel Prize winners. Instead, they point to violent criminals, corrupt politicians, or players for the most hated team in all of American sports.

This toxic community of immigrants that were not considered White wound up turning to the Underworld in droves. See, as Niko Belic described in Grand Theft Auto IV, humans do not magically change once they arrive somewhere else. Hence their culture of atrocities followed them to our sacred shores. Thus, a tradition of organized crime festered. There’s even an entire genre of movies, video games, books, and other such media portraying this culture’s crime network. Stereotypes exist for a reason, folks…

The worst part is that this ethnic community has essentially minted the modern blueprint for contemporary contraband smugglers. Only a fool would assume that the likes of Pablo Escobar and El Chapo weren’t students of history. The Latin-American kingpins have definitely learned a thing or two from their late 19th/early 20th century predecessors.

The only other heavy portrayal besides violent criminals that this culture can produce are a bunch of self-described party animals. While not violent or destructive in a vacuum, we must stop to question whether letting these fucking guys in was worth it. How have they benefited the United States outside of the tax revenue generated? Would parents of our Christian-majority nation want their offspring to become what they saw on MTV?

Contrast this group of immigrants against the Irish, who arrived here in a similar point in history with similarly low net-worths. The Irish quickly began integrating themselves into various police forces into the communities they settled in, especially near Boston. It was so much so that Irish cop became a stereotype for the longest time. So, one persecuted immigrant group from the late 19th/early 20th century became violent criminals who de-railed society, and the other overwhelmingly became keepers of the peace. These two cultures are clearly not the same, and it doesn’t take a Notre Dame grad to figure that out; even if a Rutgers grad would struggle with the same task.

Moving Forward…

“Alright Dan, you’ve made your point, now what do we do?” We need to restrict the flow of legal immigration to those who’ll either positively benefit the United States, or at a very minimum, those who are fairly intelligent and can speak English. Because once we start letting in migrants from [insert distressed country here] there is no going back. Can you deport the migrants themselves for behaving badly? Sure, and you absolutely should. However, their offspring will have birthright citizenship, hence taking that option off of the table even if they maintain the loyalties of their parent’s birthplace. At some point we as Americans lost the will to reinforce the expectation of, as Ronald Reagan put it, becoming an American. Cast aside your former ethnic ties and don the Red, White, and Blue, for fucks sake.

Seriously, we never should’ve let those greasy Italians in; fucking guidos…
